Beauty from Ashes

a letter.

My dearest Allie,

I don’t know what to say anymore except that I couldn’t sleep last night because I know that it is over between us. It is a different feeling for me, one that I never expected, but looking back, I suppose it couldn’t have ended another way.

You and I were different. We came from different worlds, and yet you were the one who taught me the value of love. You showed me what it was like to care for another, and I am a better man because of it. I don’t want you to ever forget that.

I am not bitter because of what happened. On the contrary. I am secure in knowing that what we had was real, and I am happy we were able to come together for even a short period of time. And if, in some distant place in the future, we see each other in our new lives, I will smile at you with joy, and remember how we spent a summer beneath the trees, learning from each other and growing in love. And maybe, or a brief moment, you’ll feel it too, and you’ll smile back, and savor the memories we will always share together.

The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks 

There is something about the way Nicholas Sparks wrote this letter from Noah to Allie. Maybe it’s a letter other young couples could relate to. Maybe because you can feel the love within the words. Sure, it’s a fictional story but at the same time there will always be something so real about this couple and this situation. 

“these dry bones cry for You.”

I recall a moment of prayer over my life… 

Your dry bones are going to live again, and they’re going to ignite quicker than you think. 

a soul longing for it’s Savior. a heart to be stirred by the Holy Spirit. a reignited fire to consume the body from the inside out.

I’m not expectant of the things that were once comfortable. I see change occurring all around me, and it excites me. I’ve never felt this alone and yet so in love with the Lord before. But that is the point right? When you are lonely that is the time to pour into Him with all of your being. It is the time to be satisfied only in Him. It is the hardest, but most rewarding season God has ever taken me through. I’m still in it though. I am in the process of feeling whole. My dependency on this world is fading away, and I am doing my best to rely on my Savior with everything inside of me. 

I run back into the arms of the One whose love never fails. These dry bones will no longer be dry but become alive again in Him. In my loneliness I become intimate with my God. This season of dryness and complacency is coming to an end. He is stirring something new in me. He is opening my mind to new ideas and dreams. He has given me a passion for hurt people that goes beyond complete comprehension. But I am here. I am willing. I am open to what He has for me. 

This is a season of becoming alive.
